Johan Bernhard and Ida Kristina Colldén were the parents of Daniel and Hellen Colldén, missionaries to Africa and China, respectively.
1. Johan Bernhard [Johansson, Andersson] Colldén (November 20, 1864 - August 23, 1910) married Ida Kristina Mod (April 12, 1861 - January 3, 1946).
Johan Bernhard Andersson birth
Johan original name is officially recorded as both Johansson and Andersson. In Sweden at the time (and earlier) a son often too his father's first name Johan[nes] and added 'son' to it; thus 'Johans' son' or Johansson. However, some males took their father's last name, and in at least one record Johan is known as 'Andersson' after his father's last name.
Eventually Johan Bernhard changed his name to Colldén - sometime on or before 1894. His daughter, Annie's, birth record in 1894 gives Johan's name as Colldén.
Other than official records Johan Bernhard's birth is confirmed by a silver locket with Ida's photo within bears an inscription "Minne af 30de födelse dag 20/11/1894", translated "Memory of 30th birthday 20/11/1894". The locket, one would guess, was a gift to Johan on on his 30th birthday from his wife Ida. It is now in the possession of Johan's great-grandson Lennart Holmquist (2013).
Family history handwritten notes says that Ida was born in the Trollhättan and more specifically, possibly, in Skofteby while Johan Alfred was born in Hindås. Official records give Johan Bernhard's birth place as Björketorp, Älvsborg.
Both died (Johan Bernhard of diabetes) in Göteborg and are buried in a family grave in a graveyard in that city. Many family members have visited this grave over the years, including on the Colldén-Holmquist side of the family Doris, Carolynn, Meilynn and Lennart, and no doubt by other branches of the family.
Johan Bernhard Colldén Obituary
Bernhard Colldén had a grocery shop in Lindome, probably from 1895. Then he had a furniture factory, also in Lindome. It is said that it was sold as late as 1935. One would assume the family sold it.
Colldén Möbelaffär in Göteborg
A third business was a furniture store, Colldén Möbelaffär , in Göteborg, Sweden.
See Colldén Möbelaffär & Furniture Making in Lindome
The Colldén family had an apartment in Göteborg at Norra Allégatan 2, from at least 1902 to at least 1904 as evidenced by surviving post cards sent to that addess. It makes sense to have an apartmennt in Göteborg because of their furniture store in that city. I am assuming tht they also kept their residence in Lindome.
On April 4, 1902 Johan Alfred wrote his wife Ida a postcard from Norway to their address at Norra Allégatan 2.
In 1906 Johan Bernhard was granted a patent for a collapsable bed. See Anordning ved sammenskydelige Senge (in Danish).
Years ago, possibly in the late 1990s, Johan Bernhard and Ida's great-grandson Lennart Holmquist inherited a small inexpensive Red Box in the shape of a chest. Folded in the box were old newspaper clippings, the latest with the date 1920 and the earliest 1899. The newspaper clippings recorded the birth date and day of death of family members and friends, a bitter-sweet collection of memories. Best guess is the owner was Ida Colldén because among the names on the newspaper clippings are of the birth of her twins, David and Hellen, and the deaths of her husband, Johan Bernhard and her daughter, Linnéa and article about tuberculosis (lungsot in Swedish) a disease from which her son, Daniel died.
In 2016 Lennart was on Google researchin Colldéns Möbelaffär (Colldén's furniture business) and found a photo of Johan Bernhard Colldén's snuff box, which is at the Nordiska Museet (Nordic Museum) in Stockholm, Sweden. On the lid of the snuff box are his initials 'JBC'. It is surprising sometimes what you can find on the web. See Digitalt Museum: Snusdosa.

They named the girl Ida Hellen, and the boy Carl Johan David. He was to be known as David. Hellen and David were the eighth and ninth children of twelve children born to Johan Bernhard and Ida. That they born and lived was probably a big relief to Johan and Ida. Twins born to Ida three years previously did not survive.
